The Time I Threw a Book
By Tanisha Eatmon
Hi, Im Tanisha and I was 5 years old when it all happened. See my sisters were at school. My other sister was at work with my grandma. I was sitting on the couch watching Power Puff Girls.
Thats when the doorbell rang and my babysitter went to the door. She opened it and saw her nephew, Jacob. She smiled a big hello and gave him a kiss on the cheek and welcomed him in.
I walked to the door to see who it was. Jacob was black and about 4 feet tall. He was skinny, about 7 years old with no hair. Jacob brought Legos. So I asked him if we could play with the Legos. He said yes, and my babysitter said that shed start making lunch for us.
Jacob and I went in the bedroom to play. I started to make a tower and he was making a building. I felt great playing with my friend.
We were almost finished when my baby sitter called us to eat snacks. We got to eat chips, hot dogs, and cold soda. It was good and the cold soda made my teeth chatter.
After we ate, Jacob and I went back in the room to play. Then Jacob told me to stop and pushed me, but I was not doing anything. I felt really, really mad. So I ran in the closet and found a hard book. I tried to throw the book at Jacobs head, but he turned around. Instead of hitting the back of his head, I threw the book at his eye. And thats when the trouble began.
Jacob started crying. He was stomping and turning around and screaming, covering his eye with his hands. I think there was blood coming out. The babysitter came rushing into the room. She put her hands to her cheek like she was shocked and screamed, "What did you do to him?!" I was saying, "Oops and I didnt mean to, and sorrys," but it was too late.
My babysitter ran out of the room to get the phone. Jacob was lying there, and I was still standing there because I didnt know what to do. We called our Grandma Darlene who called the hospital.
A little later, my grandma came home. Then the doctor came to the apartment and talked too much. They laid Jacob on a bed with wheels and took him to the hospital in an ambulance. I was thinking that I was in so much trouble, that I was grounded. Then I thought what if this had happed to me. I felt really sorry.
The doctor gave Jacob a glass eye and I got me a lecture (the longest lecture). I never saw Jacob again. From that day on I learned never ever to throw a book at someones eye.
