The Lunch
By Andrew Viegas
My grandma and grandpa are very nice to me. Every time I go to their house they spoil me! They take me places and we do things together.
The best time was last Friday. I had forgotten my lunch, so I called my dad and asked him to bring me my lunch.
He said, "Ill pick you up from school and take you to lunch, and then well hang out together!"
"Thats cool," I said.
At lunch that day, I was expecting my dad to pick me up. Instead my grandma and grandpa picked me up! I was exited and surprised! I asked, "Are we going to lunch?"
Grandma replied, "Yes. We are going to spoil you. Do you like fish?"
"Yes," I exclaimed.
Grandma smiled at me, "We are going to take you to Anthonys Fish Grotto!"
"Yes," I yelled! I like fish, but I had never been to Anthony's Fish Grotto before.
We got in the car and drove down the hill. When we got to the parking lot my grandpa gave me a coke, which is a special privilege! We sat in the car and drank our drinks. The soda was cold and crisp. We all sat there drinking quietly and enjoyed the moment.
When we were done we got out of the car and walked to the restaurant. We ordered our food at the counter. Then we got a seat by the ocean. I got a delicious kid's fish and chips. It was so good! I dipped my fish stick in the best ranch dressing in the whole wide world! I also dipped into the ruby red ketchup! I slurped down my soda faster then I thought could. I talked about my day at school, and how surprised I was that they had picked me up. I was so exited! I was spending time with my grandma and grandpa and I didnt have to share it with anyone!
Once we were done eating, we took a walk down Harbor Street. I saw a really cool glass elevator. I wanted to ride it, but I couldnt. It was part of a hotel. We saw a really cool cruise ship. It was nice!
After our walk down Harbor Street we went home.
When we got home I walked inside. I sat on the couch and looked outside. There I saw a sign that said, "Kids Spoiled and Returned Promptly." Thats right I thought.
I asked my grandma if I could have some rice.
She said, "Sure," in a warm enthusiastic voice.
"Thanks," I replied.
I lay on the couch thinking about how lucky I am to have grandparents that care. Once my rice was ready I just smiled, staring at my grandma! Then my grandpa came and asked me if my rice was good.
I said, "Yep I love it."
"Good I am glad you like it," he said in a happy voice.
Later we went upstairs and watched T.V--the cooking channel. It wasn't the show that made me happy; it was the feeling of being special. Lying next to my grandma and grandpa. I fell into a light sleep just thinking about all the wonderful things in my life.
As I was lying there I heard a car drive up. I felt like there were chains holding me tight to the bed. But I broke through those chains with curiosity. I got up and went to the balcony. There, in the driveway, I saw my dads car. I ran back in bed, faking my sleep. I heard my dad coming into the house.
"Sleep, Andrew sleep," I told myself.
I heard the step on the staircase make a crack. Beneath my eyelid, I saw him. My dad said, "Hi," to my grandma and grandpa. He thanked them for watching me!
Then he said, "Andrew, come on. We got to go."
"No," I yawned, as if I was just getting up.
Finally, I got up and opened my eyes. I pulled myself out of bed.
"Thank you." I looked at my grandparents, "I love you!"
They replied with the same. I dragged myself to the car. Then I sat down and told my dad I had fun, and I mean fun!
"Great," he replied.
