Mount Vernon
By Trinity Daniel
The time I went to Mount Vernon was great. Mount Vernon is where George Washington lived. When my mom, my little sister, my nana, and I first got there, I was very surprised at the scenery. I thought there was going to be log cabins, frilly ladies, horses and dirt roads, a long walking path, carriages, shops, and other colonial things.
But no! I was shocked when I saw a gift shop and a High-Tec food court! I was shocked because I thought this place, Mount Vernon, was a colonial village. Have you ever seen a Pizza Hut and cash register in a colonial village? Me neither. You would be surprised too, wouldnt you?
After we ate in the food court, we went into the real Mount Vernon. I was so happy there was a real Mount Vernon. If all there was was a gift shop and a food court I would have been as hot as hot boiled beans!
Just to get to George Washingtons house we had to hike up this huge hill. At the beginning of the hike, I had sparkling white tennis shoes. By the end of the hike my shoes were brown. Lets stop right here. What does this tell you? This hill was dusty! WOW! Why didnt they just make this hill out of asphalt? Maybe then my tennis shoes would look the same. Oh well, maybe they were too low on money.
The first thing we saw was a necessary. A necessary is an outdoor bathroom. You see, you use the bathroom in the hole (which looked more like a peephole). Then took out the shelf below youwhich held your guilty contents, and dump it out. Wait a minute. What did they wipe themselves with? Did they just pull up their underwear and leave? I hope not, because that would have been way too nasty. Didnt they have any personal hygiene?
Anyway, you should have seen George Washingtons house. It was big! No it was HUGE! It had so many rooms I thought my head was going to spin off!
The first room we saw was the dining room. It was green. There were glass tables and cups, beautiful silverware, and a glass dove centerpiece. Man, he was living in luxury!
Then we saw the guestrooms. They were pretty too. It had a bed, and a dressing room. Thats all that was in the guestrooms! Now again, what does this tell you? George Washington did little for his guests. Thats called being selfish. Have you ever heard of a president that is selfish? Me neither.
While we were in the house I heard my nana say, "I would have liked to live here in the 1700s."
I thought,
"If you lived here, you would have been a slave. A dirty, hurt slave." I told her that when we got to the car.She said, "Youre right. I didnt think about living like a slave. I should have thought about reality."
All in all, Mount Vernon was great. I cant wait to go back!
