Krispy’s Escape

By Mary Flagstad

I have a cat named Krispy. Well actually she is only a couple of months old, but if you met her you wouldn’t be able to tell. When people meet her they think of Krispy Kreme Donuts. She reminds me of a donut too, a jelly donut with powder sugar all over her. Krispy is very plump because my grandma feeds her lots of delicious, but unhealthy food. She weighs almost as much as a watermelon and like her mom, Star, she has an eye that is earthy green and an eye that is a deep shade of blue. Her tail is a large white feather.

Krispy (A.K.A. The Crusher) is a champion wrestler. My other cat, Roger, has been tackled many times by her. When she is pinned down she wiggles and squirms until she is free.

Behind my house there is a canyon and in that canyon there lives the dreaded dogyotes——half dog, half coyote. They are very skinny and have mangy brown hair. My family and I don’t want those dogyotes eating up our precious little Krispy, so we don’t let her out of the house.

One night I was taking out the recycles and Krispy escaped into the dark outside world. For a split second I froze, not realizing what just happened. I felt worried at what might happen to her. With only one thought in my head I dashed after my cat.

Krispy ran under the olive tree in front of my house and I chased after her. My feet felt sore because I had no shoes on, and I was running over dried olives and rocks. But who cares? I’m on a chase here.

I finally caught up with Krispy and reached out to grab that frisky furball, but I missed and she ran under the car. I stuck my head under and I saw two bright flashlights staring back at me.

I didn’t know what to do. I felt worried and scared all at the same time. Then for some strange reason I yelled, "Boo!" at the top of my lungs. Krispy backed up in suprise and ran from under the car to my front door, and there she sat.

Immediately I ran over to Krispy and picked her up. Holding on to her firmly, I brought Krispy inside my house.

When I shut the door behind me Krispy licked my face. I set her down gently on my living room floor.

I love Krispy, and if anything should happen to her I would feel as sad as some guy who just lost his job. I’m relieved that Krispy is safe and I feel confident that I will stop her next attempt to escape!
