On Thursday, May 3rd, 2000 we took a trolley to Chicano Park. I thought it was just a park. I felt very excited because we got to go on the trolley. When the trolley pulled up to our stop I looked out the window and saw a mural. It was huge. It covered the whole side of the building, I was sitting by Kalí, so I turned to her and said, "Look at that painting!"
We got off the trolley and we walked to the park. It wasn't as warm down there as it was at school. It felt good.

At the park we met Cathy Espitio. She was our guide. She told us all about the murals. In 1970 they built Chicano park. The city was going to build a freeway, but the neighborhood wanted a park. So they marched and protested. Then artists came and they started painting the murals on the freeway pillars. To get the paintings so high or upside down they have to use a forklift. People from the "rec" take care of the park.
The paintings are very pretty. I think the artists are good!
Here are some more pictures that we took at the park.
