Shelter Island Pier Fishing
Marine Science Department #3
January 31, 2008

On January 31, 2008 Gingerlily's department had a fishing trip. We went to the Shelter Island Pier. Ed and Shannon, who work at the bait store taught us how to put on bait on our hooks and fish. We used squid and anchovies. The squid is like a small mollusk. It felt gooey when we put it on our hooks. Some people got grossed out, and some kids thought that it was cool. The pelicans kept flying around our bait and fishing poles. They took someone's bait and ate it. They have really big beaks. Ed and Shannon showed us some fish that other people had caught. It was exciting and fun. -Iosefa

On these next few pages, our department has gathered some information about some of the interesting fish that you might catch while fishing at the peir. Please click on any picture to see the slide show, and read about the fish.
